Arthur “Archie” Baker felt his heart quicken, his breath clouding in the chilled air as he fastened his helmet tighter. He looked around, seeing determination mirrored in every face—young recruits alongside hardened veterans, all ready to face the inferno waiting for them. Flames already licked at rooftops in the distance, painting London’s skyline in shades of amber and crimson. This was their battlefield now.

Archie gripped the hose tighter, glancing upward as the first bombers roared overhead, silhouetted against the smoke-streaked moon. A rush of adrenaline filled him, drowning out the fear. This was what they’d trained for, but no training could fully prepare anyone for a night like this.

“Here they come!” shouted Station Officer Garrett, his voice steady, carrying over the chaos.
